The Exiled (Dota 2 + Portal inspired) by snowcube94 The Exiled (Dota 2 + Portal inspired) by snowcube94
"Does it feel like a trial
Does it trouble your mind the way you trouble mine?"

Crystal Maiden and Lina as seen in Dota 2, a game developed by Valve. I also drew some inspiration from Portal 2, another game by Valve as well. Here are some fun facts about the linkages between this piece and the Portal game:

  • One of my favourite songs in Portal 2 is Exile Vilify. I wanted to relate this to the lore of the sisters, as they were exiled from their homeland to two separate ends of the world, as a result of their opposite elemental affinities. For them, living together could only spell disaster, and going through each day is like trial after trial (refer to top of description).
  • Portal released a webcomic called "Lab Rat", which features Chell with a pose that strikes me really hard, as if in total resignation. I was so inspired by it that I want to try drawing fitting, and the two sisters seem to be very appropriate.
  • Dota 2 has a purchasable item called Town Portal Scroll that allows you to teleport to your friendly buildings. The Portal game has — well you guessed it — portals.
  • Crystal Maiden's theme colour is blue, while Lina's is red/orange. Coincidentally, you use two separate portals in Portal, one is blue while the other is orange.

Dota 2 and its respective rights belong to Valve. I do not own any of the contents of the game.

Very nice! I really like the usage of the "portals", it surprisingly works very well.

Thank you! I admit I was surprised myself when I found out later that the colour scheme of CM and Lina matches those of the portals. It's really interesting how you discover certain coincidences between two different games made by the same game company.
